This stretch of sand in Long Beach is an apooch-friendly paradise. In fact, it’s the only one of its kind around: The four-acre waterfront is the only off-leash dog beach in L.A. The park is named after the last local canine celebrity, an English bulldog Rosie. You will see some signs on the beach indicating dog friendly areas (only between Granada Avenue and Roycroft Avenue), but otherwise there are no fences or other hard boundaries. If you see the orange “Dogs at Play” sculpture, you will know you are in the right place. Look for parking ($2 per hour) in the Bennett Avenue lot between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. daily.

We’ve been busy visiting lots of beaches in Sussex (which we have to do) and considered a number of factors when compiling this list… the beach itself, any dog restrictions, how easy they are to get to. is from London and other dog friendly facilities are nearby. Although there are dog-friendly facilities on the beach, always bring water to keep your dog hydrated, and even a cool coat or scarf if you think they need it.

Littlehampton West Beach is one of the few places where you can find sand dunes in West Sussex (the best sand dunes we found so far are at Camber Sands in East Sussex which is dog friendly). There are two beaches in Littlehampton – East Beach and West Beach, one on each side of the river. Perch has a pet dog, Harry, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating for people and dogs, and a varied menu for lunch or dinner (dinner available in summer).
Another great dog friendly beach with a very popular dog cafe that we came to specifically check out… The Bluebird Café. The cafe has a real beach feel and is colorful and friendly for people and dogs. You’ll also find rows of colorful beach huts set back slightly from the sand – not quite the West Wittering Beach Huts standard, but great for photos.
It’s the fastest beach you can reach from London by train, and like all its West Sussex counterparts, it offers miles of dog-friendly shingle beaches all year round. However, we are always on the lookout for a dog-friendly cafe when after the beach and since there is none right on the beach we recommend taking the train one stop further to Lancing Beach, see #2 above.
Beach Climbing is the beach to come to if you want to get away from it all. It is quiet and secluded, although Littlehampton West Beach is another beach you can reach in an hour (but remember you also have to walk again if you leave your car in Climbing). We had the beach to ourselves apart from a few people swimming and walking their dogs, so it’s a great beach if your dog needs some space.
