Day Trips With Dogs Southern California
We were on a mission to find the best dog beaches in Southern California, and to our surprise, our options were pretty limited. There are plenty of off-leash beaches, but we have a puppy who absolutely loves running free in and out of the water, so an off-leash beach is a must.
Dog Friendly Campgrounds In California For Canine Camping
Over the past few months, we’ve explored all of Southern California’s off-chain dog beaches and ranked them in order from our favorite to our least favorite.
Huntington Dog Beach is definitely our favorite offline dog beach in Southern California and we would go here every weekend if we lived closer. The Hundstrand area is clearly marked and we had no problem finding parking as we arrived earlier
Its length, clarity and shallow water create the best environment for our children. It was Zooey’s first time going into the water alone, and she had so much fun running in and out of the water.
A great non-profit group runs this beach and does an amazing job of keeping it “released” so our kids can run and play freely.

We were staying at the Hilton Beachfront Resort in Santa Barbara and a friend suggested we visit Hendry Beach. Crystal truly loves this country.
The dramatic cliffs are beautiful and there is plenty of room for everyone on the beach. The unguarded area starts in the east and there are clear signs to guide you in the right direction.
We saw a restaurant here overlooking the beautiful Arroyo Burro beach; however, they do not allow dogs. Fear not, as there are plenty of other dog-friendly options around Santa Barbara.

Ultimate Dog Lover’s Guide To Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park
This was the first beach we visited and the furthest from LAX. For some reason, this dog beach is always listed as Southern California territory; But Carmel is actually part of Northern California and is closer to San Francisco than Los Angeles.
We decided to go ahead and put it on our list because Carmel-by-the-Sea is a dog paradise and we ranked it the #1 dog-friendly city in America.
We were staying at a dog friendly hotel nearby so we decided to walk to Carmel Beach as parking was very limited. The view here is very beautiful and the fine white sand feels so good on our feet.
Kuma loves the sand here and gets so excited when his little feet touch the sand. We think the white sand reminds him of Florida.
Dog Friendly Campsites On California Beaches
This was the busiest dog beach we visited. We arrived early around 9am and were surprised to see the parking lot lined up from the property.
Luckily we found a spot and the key was to be patient as it seemed like someone was always going back to their car to leave.
There were a lot of beach goers from surfers, beach volleyball players, dog walkers so despite the large car park it was full.
We loved the large dog section and the shallow water so our kids could go in and enjoy the waves. There are also a bunch of big rocks, so if your kid likes to jump on rocks, this is a great place.
Best Dog Friendly Beaches In The U.s
Zooey LOVES to jump and climb rocks so she thrives here. Kuma also enjoys climbing rocks, trying zooeys and chasing other dogs.
We spent the weekend in Long Beach and Rosie’s Dog Beach was just a few miles from the super pet friendly hotel we were staying at.
When we first searched for off-leash beaches in the Los Angeles area, Rosie’s Dog Beach was always at the top of the search results. It is also currently the only legal off-leash dog beach in LA County.
When we visited early on a Saturday morning around 9:30 there was plenty of parking and plenty of room for our kids to run around. I don’t know why the kids don’t seem very excited about this beach.
Expert Advice On How To Travel With Your Dog
There’s nothing wrong with it and it’s clean, but it feels a little worn. The sand by the water also looked more like mud and the dog’s paws and paws looked very muddy every time they stepped in and out of the water.
Again, it’s not a bad dog beach, but it doesn’t give us or the dogs as much fun as other beaches.
This one is our least favorite for a few reasons. First, there is no parking in the area, so your only option is to find street parking in the surrounding area.
Access to the dog beach section is a bit of a walk and when you finally get there the space is quite small.

Also, right behind you is a wire fence protecting the US Naval Station. It seems like a lot of effort from parking to walking to the beach to end up with ordinary views and limited space.
With that said, many of our friends love this beach and highly recommend it. If you live near the area or visit on a less busy day, it might be a better experience.
We hope our review helps you plan an off-leash beach adventure for you and your pup.

Palm Springs, California is located about 100 miles east of Los Angeles in the Coachella area. Sonoran Desert Valley Region. Palm Springs has been a popular vacation spot for years and is known for its natural hot springs, hotels, restaurants, golf courses, sunny weather and—of course—dogs.
Downtown Palm Springs is constantly growing, with new shops, restaurants, hotels and neighborhoods such as North End developments like the Uptown Design District. The annual Coachella and Stagecoach festivals have drawn attention to the desert cities, and the Palm Springs International Film Festival in January attracts big names and growing numbers of visitors.
Pet Friendly Hotel Del Mar / San Diego
“Greater Palm Springs” includes eight cities other than Palm Springs: Desert Hot Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, LaQuinta, Indio and Coachella. Tourism is the area’s largest contributor to the local economy. I would recommend staying in Palm Springs and exploring these other cities by car. Palm Desert has a nice outdoor mall and Indio / Coachella can be great for photography or if you go to a festival (without your dog).
We have visited many dog friendly places and when I say Palm Springs is the most dog friendly city I mean it! It’s hard to explain, but there’s just a sense of welcome wherever Ruby and I go, and we hope that’s reflected in this comprehensive guide.
The weather in Palm Springs may be good all year round, but there are certain times that are considered best to visit – winter and early spring. Palm Springs feels special during winter, which runs from November to January, because while the rest of the country deals with cold temperatures and snow, Palm Springs
