One of the main attractions of Yeppoon and the Capricorn Coast are the many beautiful beaches, split between Yeppoon and Emu Park in the south.
Fortunately, the standard beach law in the Livingstone Shire area allows dogs on a lead on all beaches before 8am and after 4pm, unless otherwise stated. So almost all the beaches in this area are dog friendly!
In my research, I didn’t come across any beaches that don’t allow dogs, although the beaches in Byfield National Park to the north are off limits.
Yeppoon Surfside Motel Beach: Pictures & Reviews
During my visit in 2021, the local tourism website mentioned that dogs are not allowed at Yeppoon Main Beach, Emu Park Beach and Cooee Bay Beach. However, I can confirm that Cooee Bay Beach had the usual signs saying that dogs are allowed before 8am and after 4pm, while Yeppoon Main Beach and Emu Park Beach had no dog signs. With the latter two, dogs are probably allowed on leashes, but kept away from protected areas.
There are two beaches with different rules: Farnborough Beach in Bangalee and Fishermans Beach in Emu Park. On both beaches, dogs are allowed off-leash all day, but not on weekends or public holidays, when they must be on a lead.
The off-leash section of Farnborough Beach is between the Bangalee boat ramp and Barwells Creek, the easiest access to Hinz Avenue opposite the 4WD access. At Fisherman’s Beach the off-leash section starts 150m north of the boat ramp, and off-leash access is allowed before that point.
Although crocodiles rarely spawn in this southern region, the sea monsters can be dangerous during the summer months, and are on the lookout during turtle nesting season from October to March. If turtles are around, keep your distance and keep your dogs on a leash, or disappear from the beach altogether.
