Sorry, we could not find any pet friendly facilities in our database. Make sure the search query is entered correctly or try entering fewer characters. The best. But the Midwest isn’t all about Chicago and our great breweries, thick-crust pizza, or lake views. The excitement is there, as are the smells worth smelling in our neighboring cities and towns! Pack your bags, get ready to go crazy, and take a vacation from Chicago on one of these amazing dog-friendly weekend getaways.
Chicago is known for improvisation and the “yes and” rule. But the dunes of Indiana are where you’ll say, “Yes, sand!” Located just 35 miles from downtown, it’s a dog-friendly day trip from Chicago. You and your Dunes dog will love exploring the park’s trails, lakefront, and beaches.
Your Guide To Dog Friendly Travel In Minnesota
There are plenty of pet-friendly accommodations, shops, and restaurants around town. Taltry Arboretum and the European Market are also worth a visit. Check out the official Indiana Dunes Fun Spot Guide here.
Don’t chase waterfalls. Please stick to your usual paddling and licking. Just kidding – chase waterfalls (after a heavy rain) in this gorgeous (and free) national park! Less than 100 miles from Chicago, Starved Rock has 18 canyons, picturesque sandstone cliffs, fun local wineries and breweries with dog-friendly patios, and a rich cultural history. Fall is the best time to hike the trails for spectacular views.
From local shops to beautiful parks and hiking trails, Amish country in northern Indiana has plenty of fun things to do with your pets. Try Shipshewana Trading Place, where leashed pups can visit the Midwest’s largest flea market near you. Just a warning: after a weekend learning about the Amish way of life, it can be hard to get back into the hustle and bustle of the city.
Wisconsin is the perfect place to take lots of “unsolicited” vacation photos with your dog! Most restaurants allow dogs on their patios, and many charming guesthouses welcome them as well. This resort is just as fun for kids as it is for people, so you can relax and rejuvenate together. If you’re feeling less R&R and more outdoors, stroll to Big Foot Beach State Park, next to Lake Geneva.
One Day In Dog Friendly Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Ohio.
Pepper is here to drink beer, and there’s no better place than Milwaukee. Being very pet friendly, you may have a hard time convincing Fido to come back to Chicago with you. Stay for a while at one of their many pet-friendly hotels, but the Kimpton Journeyman Boutique sounds pretty amazing – great river views, no extra charge for pets, and no leashes to keep him comfortable.
Stroll the dog-friendly boardwalk to learn about Milwaukee history and see rotating art. And of course you have to drink beer. Check out Black Husky Brewing Company, which is a B.Y.O.F. Bring Fido (or food, whatever).
About a 3-hour drive from Chicago, Indianapolis has several dog-friendly breweries, shops, and patio restaurants. Sidewalk Dog’s personal favorite, Metazoa Brewing Company, boasts a dog park and donates 5% of its profits to animal welfare and wildlife organizations. Enjoy a puppy party or a Ruh Roh Ale, then stop by Three Dog Bakery on Mass Avenue for some pup-approved treats.
The dogs will run along the Cultural Trail, which connects Mass Avenue to five other Indy cultural districts. When you arrive in Broad Ripple, check out their dog park before dining on the patio at the Broad Ripple Brewpub, an English-style pub with a spacious patio and delicious vegetarian fare.
