Dog Friendly Resorts Hudson Valley – Our stay in Kingston, New York is the first of our family friendly tours of the Hudson Valley! Kingston was nice, but a bit far from the other places we wanted to see – so our first step was to move the campsite south, near Newburgh. This makes us by far the best dog-friendly attractions on our list – and we have plenty to choose from! Actually too much to put in one blog…so here are the things we did in the middle of the Hudson Valley, and next time we’ll bring you the real things to do in the southern Hudson Valley!
No trip to the Hudson Valley would be complete without a stop at the Walkway on the Hudson. Standing 212 feet above the river, this 1.28 mile long bridge is the longest in the world – and the best place to admire the river that carved this amazing valley! Since its opening in 2009, almost 2 million people have walked, cycled, walked, walked and skated on this old railway bridge. If you have a long walk, you can pick up a map from the kiosk and you can join one of the walking trails through downtown Poughkeepsie and cross over the Mid-Hudson Bridge.

Pet travelers will appreciate the litter boxes and water bowls at each end of the trail, and there’s no doubt that this is a truly pet-friendly activity. Even the reminder about the warm floor and to be careful that the child’s towel is not burnt is well done – and the benches along the way are perfect for a break to enjoy the view.

Ty was so jealous when he saw this little doll that was discovered to be “walking”! But he was still in a good mood to play a little on the way back to the car, pretending to be a Jack Russell.
After some hobby work on the road we were ready for another road… the wind road! There are several wine trails to choose from in the Hudson Valley, and the Shawangunk Trail covers the middle of the valley. We printed the map with the best of intentions, but we only made it one stop – although that’s okay, America’s oldest beer!
Brotherhood Winery was founded in 1839, when the cellar was dug by hand! These cellars are still in use today, and are stored in 200 freshly made oak barrels. Tours and tastings are available, but be sure to plan your visit around the winery’s special events when pets are not allowed.
Although the tour and tasting room are not pet friendly, dogs are welcome on the property and have a beautiful courtyard where you can taste wine and, if you’re lucky, enjoy live music – live
The Best Pet Friendly Resorts To Take Your Cat Or Dog On Vacation
Be sure to come hungry, because you don’t want to miss Vinum Café! At first I went in to order food so we could sit in the courtyard with the dogs, but chef/owner Christian Pierrel beat me to it and insisted we take the kids to his beautiful home. I would never have known he was there if he hadn’t said anything – and it would be such a shame to lose him! The patio door is near the back…
It was quiet, shady and very beautiful – and we were lucky because Ty and Buster had the best dog food. The chef also stopped to impress them and brought out a bowl of water to make sure they weren’t thirsty. Lunch was hearty and delicious, and just as we finished, the children received their very own special delivery from the kitchen – prime rib cuts ready to be served for dinner that night! I think it’s safe to say that Chef Christian is now men’s favorite in the world!
After our lunch we were all ready for a walk so we stopped for a walk along the river in Newburgh. It’s not far to walk – just a few blocks, really – but there’s a nice little park and some interesting places to eat – although we didn’t find any that accepted dogs on their patios. Of course, you can always have your order sit on a bench for less people watching while you eat.
