If you follow the blog regularly, you know that Waterville Valley New Hampshire is one of our favorite towns in New Hampshire, and Waterville Valley Water Ski Resort is one of our favorite resorts in New Hampshire, especially for dogs! I always vacation in New Hampshire with my dog, year round, it’s great any time of year.
We love it up there, and we love New Hampshire weather in the winter, fall and summer. We think this is the perfect holiday for dogs! Not surprising as lately we always go to NH in the winter. Last summer we decided to take a summer vacation filled with fresh mountain air and hiking with our dogs, but between the Canadian wildfires and freak floods, we never felt confident enough to travel that far from Florida.
Whether you want to spend time hiking or on the water, it has it all. Lake Winnipesauke in New Hampshire and Lake Sunapee are just two of New Hampshire’s beautiful lakes. You can rent a boat and go out on one of these lakes, and take your dog with you! Just remember to use good dog safety guidelines and put a dog life jacket on your wallet.
Separation Anxiety In Dogs
Traveling to New Hampshire is amazing. There are a variety of hiking trails, and there are a good number of “4000 footers” or mountains that are 4000 feet or more. Mount Washington is the tallest mountain in New Hampshire at 6,288 feet.
There are many hiking trails that allow dogs. No problem you’ll find a dog walking in New Hampshire! Learn more at the NH State Parks website. New Hampshire Magazine also has reviews of NH’s Best Hikes.
I recommend that you pay special attention to the difficulty of walking as well as your dog’s ability to walk. Most adult dogs can comfortably walk 2 to 7 miles, but this varies greatly from dog to dog. You should talk to your vet before taking your dog for a walk.
New Hampshire is a place where the roads can be rough. The locals have excellent walking skills, so what they think is easy for you and your dog may not be! Be careful and use good judgment when choosing routes. And be sure to bring plenty of water for you and your dog!

My favorite thing about Waterville Valley Resort is that they have a very long dog run at the resort. It actually doubles as a cross country road, which is unusual, but cyclists know this route is dog friendly so we rarely see runners on this route. My Husky Icy loves to walk here! He survives the snow trail and even though he is 14 years old, he is like a young dog again. We had a great time!
I can’t wait to get it there in the spring, but it’s not looking good this summer, for various reasons. He is starting to walk slowly and I am afraid that after this year he will not be able to walk easily.
Here’s a quick video of me and my dogs crossing the bridge over the beautiful creek that surrounds the property:
Check out our custom designed animal exhibit key! You can buy it in my Etsy shop. It’s great to celebrate a new pet or remember a pet that has crossed the rainbow bridge. I got one in memory of my beloved angel Phoebe. I love living with him every day, seeing his beautiful face is something I will always carry with me.
The Best Dog Walking Services In No Worries Pet & Farm Sitting: Pets In Good Hands
There are not many New Hampshire hotels in this area that are dog friendly. It’s no surprise that Waterville Valley allows dogs on resort property and on some trails, but their hotels do not!
There are tons of apartments around the neighborhood, and many owners rent out their properties, but none of them have pets. There are also several lodges near the property, but only one is suitable for pets. It’s called snow. We stayed there a year ago and it was great. The location is perfect, you can walk to everything in the resort, including that dog run I mentioned above. Glad to see it’s in the new resource now, so hopefully it’ll be available soon. The previous owner didn’t seem to invest in improvements and we won’t be staying there until things change.
A few years ago we stayed at the Fairfield Inn & Suites, a Marriott hotel located near Plymouth, New Hampshire. It’s 20 minutes from Waterville Ski Resort, but it’s a great location! We love it.
Here is a two minute video I uploaded to YouTube that gives you an overview of how we spent our days and the beauty of New Hampshire’s Waterville Valley. I think it’s the best vacation for dogs, anyway! From a fun old beach to walking the dog, find the perfect time with your four-legged friend in our colorful city.
