I was born in Kent and grew up on the coast so I know it well. Although many small towns are rough around the edges, there have been improvements in many places. Now there are lots of small, independent shops, bakeries and funky cafes that weren’t there when I was there.

I’ve rounded up my favorite places and dog-friendly things to do along the Kent coast in Ramsgate, Margate, Broad and Whitstable. This is a long list, so feel free to comment!
Kent is at its best at sunset. One of the best ways to enjoy an English garden is to start with a coastal walk or country lane. There are long trails to explore as well as short and sweet routes for those with tired legs. If you want to cover more ground, take the Viking Coastal Trail. It is approximately 32 miles (51.4 km) long and connects Margate, Ramsgate and Broad.
This self-guided tour connects you to local attractions. Explore Margaret at your own pace. Skip the areas you don’t like and spend more time on the areas you like. A great way to pack everything into one day, your dog will love all the sights and smells.
If you want to combine cruise ship and cruise ship sightseeing, a trip to Botany Bay is a must. You can see the beautiful chalk mounds that the area is famous for. It is a great place for fossil hunting, rock pools and exploration.

There are many beaches within walking distance in this area. My favorite is a nature trail called the Contra Trail. From Royal Harbor it is a 12.2 mile (19.6 km) walk to Viking Ship and Pegwell Bay Nature Reserve.
This 615 hectare beautiful park is home to rare flora and fauna. This is one of the few reserves where dogs are welcome to run and play, just remember the restricted areas.
This walk takes you along the seafront from Dumpton Gap, the Great Dog Walk, to Ramsgate. It covers 4.88 miles and takes about 2 hours. This is one of my favorites because the dog loves it so much.
If you are visiting Thanet, this is a great trip and I recommend you consider it if you have the time. It was once considered a desert, although it is no longer, and the scenery is still extraordinary. And they have dog friendly trains!

South East Kent has over 50 beaches, 98% of which are dog friendly. There are restrictions during the summer months, but only for a few hours, meaning there are plenty of beaches to explore with your partner regardless of the season. I’ve put together a guide to dog-friendly beaches in Kent, including the times and days the beaches are open to dogs. These are my favorite beaches:
If you’re visiting the city, this is the most dog-friendly beach. Walk around Margate Old Town before heading to the wide beach, where there’s plenty of sand to play on even at high tide.
It is not a very nice beach, but the location is good. You can walk along the west coast to the beach and harbor. You’ll find a dog-friendly cafe and shop called Archive, which sells cute homewares, coffee and cakes.
It’s a popular spot, and for good reason. Dogs have plenty of freedom to play in this secluded bay surrounded by stunning white cliffs. There is plenty of parking nearby, a dog-friendly cafe, and a short walk in any direction will take you to Ramsgate or The Broad.

This beach is amazing and a popular surfing spot. So it’s no surprise that you have to be early if you want to get a parking spot. A short drive away is Kingsgate Bay with its beautiful bay. Parking is very difficult here, so come to Jos Bay.
If you want to avoid sand dunes, this is a good option. It has everything you’d want in a traditional beach market, including beach houses, fishing boats and weatherboards. Dogs are also welcome all year round.

Whenever I go to Kent I always stick to the beach and gardens. The Shell Grotto and Crab Museum are worth a visit. If you enjoy historical talks and shopping, there is plenty to do outside!
This is a truly unique attraction that should not be missed. A “decorated subway” with a cat’s mysterious history. It was discovered in 1835 and has 4.6 million shells. Dogs are only allowed in the cafe, not the grotto itself, but the shell-covered mosaics are worth a look.

Dogs are allowed on the grounds, but not inside the castle, making it a perfect activity in the sun. Buy a ticket and visit the castle or enjoy the garden with your friend.
After a long walk on the beach or a dip in the sea, there is nothing better than finding a cafe for lunch and eating ice cream in the desert. The Kent Coast has some great places to eat by the sea, from traditional chips to modern menus. Apart from the odd snack, I always stick to cooking when visiting Kent. This bustling cafe is a must visit. The menu is small but has excellent coffee and wine. Our friends gave us a warm welcome, as did we. This restaurant is a short walk up the hill from Turner Contemporary and is perfect for a visit before or after a stroll around Margate Old Town.

This cafe is a bit far from the main part of the city. The atmosphere was a bit on the dark side, but the coffee was great and the dogs were welcome. If you enjoy buying records, it’s worth it. There’s more space than the Fort, and it’s great for larger groups.
This cafe is popular among locals and tourists. On a sunny day, you can sit outside and enjoy the friendly and relaxed atmosphere of Margate Old Town. The menu has simple yet delicious vegetarian options, covering everything from breakfast to dinner.
This chip has the most extensive vegetarian menu I’ve ever seen. The portions are huge so I would consider sharing as it is cheaper than a traditional chip shop. It’s delicious though, and a great option for your tea night. If you want a smaller portion, go to Peter’s Fish Factory on the beach.
This glass house is small but beautiful. There isn’t much space inside, and it’s not always open like a cafeteria. If you’re lucky, you’ll find a spot and enjoy a drink in the sun. Small dogs are welcome inside or outside the grounds. The beautiful glasshouse alone is worth the visit.
Sevenoaks Is The Best Place For Pets To Live In The South East
At Broadstair Beach you’ll find a dog-friendly cafe. Recommended if you’re looking to spend the day on the sand amongst the vegetarian options including coffee, cocktails and cake.
This is a must visit every time we visit Kent. They are dog friendly, the ice cream is amazing (they have a vegan option!), and the interior is amazing. If you want to sit outside and people watch, it’s on the main promenade.
This cafe welcomes you and your partner with a delicious menu to enjoy after a long beach trip. They offer free creative space to local people who want to share their art. If you plan to eat here, it’s worth booking as Whitstable gets busy quickly.
