Dog Friendly Vacations In Oregon – While the holidays can be so much fun and excitement, many of us who have pets will never be able to fully relax by leaving them at home. Is the dog panicking? Did the cat scratch something? Fortunately, many hotels and vacation rentals have become more pet-friendly in recent years. This article is an introduction to finding the best pet-friendly hotels for you and your family when traveling along the Oregon Coast.
It’s easy to find lists of pet-friendly hotels organized by state; but it’s a journey. Unfortunately, the world’s most pet-friendly hotel won’t work if you’re in the northeastern Oregon town of Pendleton and you’re traveling on the west coast of Oregon.

A great resource for finding a pet-friendly hotel on the Oregon Coast is Hotels.petswelcome.com. Their website even has a link to a map to help you plan your trip.

If you find a pet-friendly hotel in the right area, always call ahead, check the pet policy and reserve the room(s). Policies change and every website is susceptible to outdated information; you also don’t want to arrive at the only pet-friendly hotel within 20 miles and find it full.
Traveling with pets can be more rewarding and stressful than without them. Fortunately, there are now many pet-friendly hotels and even some pet-friendly vacation rentals. Plan your trip in advance to make sure everything is in order and your pet’s presence will be more rewarding than stressful!
When contacting your chosen hotel, be sure to ask about the requirements – license, vaccination booklet and the like. Many pet-friendly hotels do not require this, but arriving and realizing this is of course the same as not finding any vacancies.
Once you have chosen a pet-friendly hotel, find out the location and contact details of the nearest veterinarian. In fact, this should be considered the other half of finding a pet-friendly hotel.

It’s also always a good idea to make sure your pet’s license is up to date, which should ensure that its vaccinations are up to date as well. Pet-Friendly-hotels.net provides a useful checklist if you are planning to travel with your pet.
Another option, of course, is a pet-friendly holiday home. They are often owned by people who set their own rules, so sometimes it’s easier to find one that allows pets.
For example, there are at least three friendly vacation rentals in Lincoln City. The nearest 24-hour veterinary hospital is in Salem, about an hour’s drive away, which should be taken into account, but there are two clinics in the city, and one of them accepts urgent cases until 9 p.m. every day except Tuesdays and Thursdays. Be sure to book in advance as pet-friendly properties are becoming more and more popular! The west coast is beautiful, I don’t think anyone can argue with that. However, in my humble opinion, the Oregon Coast has the most breathtaking scenery and the greatest variety of things to do and see. As someone who is very attached to my dog, it is also important that the Oregon coast is as dog-friendly as possible. Let me take you through what I consider to be the most comprehensive guide to must-see places for you and your dog.
While most places are dog-friendly and there are plenty of places to stretch our six legs, there are a few places I didn’t mention in the article. Whether you’re traveling with your fur baby or not, I’m going to give you a guide to the PNW Coast, from Astoria to the Crescent City, to avoid the crowds, do it frugally, and have a memory that will last a lifetime.

I would plan at least a full week to see the entire coastline, but plan more if you want to take the time to see everything you want!
Travel Tip: Many scenic spots charge parking fees. You may want to consider purchasing an Oregon Pacific Beach Pass or an Oregon State Park Pass because it’s cheaper in the long run than paying for each individual park pass.
If you’re coming from Portland, start at the north end of the beach in Astoria and work your way down the beach from there. and look.
One place worth including in your Astoria itinerary is the Astoria Column. It is located on the highest hill in the city. You can climb many steps to the top, from where you have a wonderful view of the surrounding area. From the top of the column, you can see where the Pacific Ocean, the Columbia and Youngs Rivers, and the Astoria-Megler Bridge meet.

Now you can’t get your dog to the top of the column because there is barely enough room in the column for people to help each other, especially with a wobbly dog. But you can walk around the top of the hill, eat lunch at one of the picnic tables, and enjoy the view from the top of the hill with your fur baby.
If you have children, you can buy a cheap, small wooden glider to fly them up and down. Parking costs $5.
Another cool thing for kids is the Astoria Riverfront stroller. It’s free (although they do accept donations for maintenance) and they take you on a vintage wagon ride up and down the Columbia River.
History lovers will be told an interesting story about this place. And another plus: if you have a dog with you and he is well-behaved, you can take him on this easy ride!

Another great stop is Lewis and Clark National Historical Park. Lots of interesting history, a fort to explore and beautiful paths through the trees and along the river.
Dogs are allowed on the trails and it’s a great place to take the kids and learn about the history of our country.
Be sure to stop at Fort Stevens State Park and see the Peter Iredale Wreck! While the actual history of the wreck may not be as exciting, it certainly captures the imagination!
Take a look inside the shipwreck and let your imagination tell your own story about the unfortunate shipwreck! In the summer, if you’re lucky and have the right conditions (warm temperatures, no moon, no fog, etc.), this is a great place to find luminescent algae glowing in the waves!

Last summer (2021) I went for one night and although it was too foggy to see the waves, there was also algae on the sand and it was amazing to see the sand sparkling with life with every step my dog and I took!
Goonies fans will recognize certain parts of the city that appear in the film. Every year on June 7, “Goonies Day” is celebrated throughout the city, with many Goonies-related activities taking place.
If you’re a fucking geek, you need to take one thing into account: although the house shown at the beginning of the video is in Astoria, it is a private house and the owners are asking for fans to make it a tourist attraction. .
But since there are so many places to see, the Oregon Film Museum in Astoria is one of those places and has an entire Goonies section!

As you begin your journey along the coast, the first place you’ll want to stop is Ecola State Park. As mentioned earlier, this was one of the locations where Goonies was filmed, with several recognizable spots (e.g. the part where they hold the coin contrasting with the rocks).
