Dog Friendly Vacations Quebec

Dog Friendly Vacations Quebec – Looking for an epic getaway with your pup for Christmas? Christmas in Quebec is a dog-friendly destination if you love the cold, snow and all things Christmas. It’s about a nine hour drive from New York to Quebec, Canada, and it’s one of the best road trips we’ve ever taken!

Despite the long journey, this holiday is worth it! You see, Quebec transforms into a Christmas village during the holiday season, just like a Charles Dickens novel; Christmas song. Here’s where to stay, what to do and where to eat with your puppy.

We stayed at the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, which is dog friendly. The hotel sits high up overlooking the St. Lawrence River and looks like a castle in the sky. A five-star luxury hotel, the most photographed hotel in the world! The hotel accepts up to two pets of any size for a fee of USD 50 CDA per night.

The interior of the hotel is completely decorated for the holidays and the halls are lined with beautifully decorated Christmas trees. It didn’t take long to check in and we were very surprised that Gatsby waited patiently online with us even after a long journey. The hotel staff made sure that Gatsby was well looked after. He doesn’t eat croquettes, so we asked the hotel to prepare salmon and roast beef. The staff even asked Gatsby if the salmon was cooked to the right temperature!

The best thing about Fairmont Le Château Frontenac is that they offer a dog sitting service! We booked a babysitter to come when Danny and I went to dinner and when we went dog sledding. They charge $26 per hour (CAD) with a 3 hour minimum for the sitter to come to the room to watch Gatsby. You can train the sitter to stay alone in the room, or she can take the dog out for a walk and play in the snowy garden just outside the hotel.

We walked with Gatsby on Dufferin Terrace, the terrace surrounding the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. This elevated area offers panoramic views of Old Quebec and St. There is a huge slide where people stand at the top of the slide (270 feet tall) to whiz down on a sled that accelerates up to 60 mph all the way to the bottom! Gatsby is stuck and loves watching people zoom in on the slide!

The German Christmas market runs from November 22nd to December 23rd and we managed to catch the last day of the holiday market. We wandered around the market and found unique and beautiful handmade items made in Quebec and foods like Nuremberg gingerbread, German Christmas cookies and other German foods like bratwurst, pretzels, wine and more.

Quebec Is The Least Dog Friendly Province In Canada

The next place we visited was the QuartierPetit Champlain neighborhood. This location is a vacation spot and therefore Instagram worthy! The narrow cobbled streets here are filled with Christmas lights and decorations. I love visiting boutiques and some people even let Gatsby join me.

Place Royaleis is located a short walk from the Petit Champlain neighborhood and where we visited Notre-Dame-des-Victoires, the oldest Roman Catholic church in North America.

Head to Place des Canotiers, a landscaped square on the banks of the St. Lawrence River. Gatsby played in the snow here and we walked right next to the river admiring the large ice cap.

Unfortunately we were unable to eat at any of the restaurants in the area as there was no outdoor seating. Restaurants here set up outdoor seating in the warmer months, and many people dine with their dogs. The only place that offers outdoor seating is the Pub des Borgiain de Winter. Even though it was cold, we ended up sitting outside because Gatsby wasn’t allowed in the pub. I had a glass of wine and Danny enjoyed a hot bowl of French onion soup.

Where Can You Go With Your Dog On A Vacation ?

At the hotel, Danny booked a romantic dinner at Bistro Le Sam & Bar Atrium, this restaurant offers a wonderful view as it overlooks the St. Lorenzo River. We ordered maple syrup duck wings and Atlantic salmon tartare as starters. I had the buttermilk fried chicken cornouailles as my main course and Danny had the pan fried lamb chops. Of course we drank a lot of wine and ended up with two parts of dark chocolate lava cake.

We made arrangements for a pet sitter to come visit Gatsby while Danny and I went dog sledding on the Expedition Mi Loup! From the hotel we need to reach Saint-Jean-de-l’Île-d’Orléans, which is about 20 minutes away. If you don’t arrive here by car, the hotel can arrange transportation for you. I’ve wanted to try dog sledding for a long time! When you arrive, you can feel the energy of these dogs because they are full of excitement and enthusiasm!

The session started with a briefing on safety and riding techniques, then we were off into the jungle! I sat on the sled while Danny stood behind me driving the sled. The adventure lasts approximately 1 hour and there is a 15 minute session where you can hang out with the pups. This experience was everything I wanted and I am so grateful to have met this amazing dog. If you intend to try it I recommend you be prepared with a jacket and ski trousers. I was wearing thermal leggings, which definitely weren’t enough to protect my legs.

Experiencing Christmas in Quebec is the perfect holiday. We enjoyed our stay at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac and definitely enjoyed the city’s winter atmosphere and holiday spirit. I have no doubt that Gatsby felt the same way. Freezing temperatures, snow, ice cream, grilled salmon and meat in the kitchen at the perfect temperature, a babysitter entertaining people and the comfort of a king-sized bed. What more could a husky ask for? I’m sure this will be Gatsby’s favorite dog vacation for a long time!
